When can i apply paternity leave?
It depends on the country. In the UK, you can get Paternity Leave from your first day of employment, but Paternity Pay needs at least 26 weeks with your employer. In Singapore, you give 4 weeks' notice and, by default, take 4 continuous weeks within 16 weeks after the birth. In the US, the federal FMLA law allows unpaid leave for a new child within one year of birth. You must have worked for your employer for at least 12 months. The US Department of Labor says to check your state's rules too, as states may give more protection.
When a lawyer helpsIf your employer refuses leave or says you do not qualify, an employment lawyer in your area can check your rights.
